25 things to keep me blogging
…this whole 25 things thing, seems to be a thing to keep unproductive people like me doing things. which is why i was surprised that both qualified condition and laaaaaazlo took part in it. I rarely blog anymore, this is in part because I have been “really busy” (who cares isn’t everyone) and partially cause recently i have been second guessing everything i do to the umteenth degree. That unfortunately includes writing about the life xie and I have been sharing.
So 25 things sounds good.
1. When i was in elementary school i took horse riding classes for a whole year with ambitions of learning to barrel race and take part in rodeos. i really loved horses (and still do) and i think cleaning the horse and taking care of them was my favorite part. Also my horse trainer was black and i remember thinking that was significant at the time. Horses are magical.
2. As a kid i had to wear bifocals until i was in third grade, i pretended to hate my glasses in front of classmates but i actually thought they were super cool… laser eyes bitches! I will never wear contacts.
3. I have never broken a bone other than the tip of a finger and frankly that doesn’t count. I should have broken several between skateboarding and riding dirt bikes… but nope. SOLID AS IRAQ.
4. When i was 8 years old i decided i wanted to own a record company and a record store. When i was asked what i wanted to do in high school during one of those “everyone needs to go to college” talks i mentioned this and the lecturer frowned and said “well i guess YOU don’t need college”.
5. I never knew my “real” father but i think MY dad is way more of a badass than he could have ever been anyways.
6. I moved over 15 times before i graduated high school.
7. I never had a single drink until i was 21, i had that drink on my 21st birthday relatively alone since i had just moved to LA and didn’t know anyone (had it with weirdo/druggy housemates that didn’t know my name).
8. i question why i went to Art Center every single day.
9. i love riding motorcycles more than any kind of engine driven vehicle, my moped however is as close to a motorcycle i think i will ever own.
10. My uncle started rusty surfboards with “rusty” and actually helped form alot of the surf culture in the 70s and 80s. Now he is a real estate agent in Colorado, he is one of the people in my life that i consider myself closest too. Even though we argue constantly.
11. i was on swim team for a year in high school. i was super slow.
12. i am allergic to cats, but i have two.
13. i have had two friends that committed suicide… that’s a downer MY BAD!
14. i think my friends from school are the most talented people i have ever met, and i fully expect them to change the world.
15. my mother married her older brother’s best friend. she used to trade chores with her brother in order that he would ask my dad to take her on a date (apparently the chore of choice was washing my uncles car), i don’t know if he ever did take her on a date until MUCH later. My dad fell in love with my mom and married her when i was almost a year old… after knowing her for more than 20 years.
16. Both of my great grandfather’s were Presbyterian pastors, and half of my great uncles were missionaries.
17. i, like Laaaazlo, have also been to the steam tunnels under caltech. i have also been under the wind tunnel which cal tech built to test experimental air craft. Art Center bought this building and i used to explore it at night with one of my cooler professors. I have also been to JPL.
18. i have few phobias, but i am genuinely petrified of parasites.
19. i am mildly claustrophobic, however, i am extremely sensitive to sounds and a room full of sound can make me feel claustrophobic. Xie can testify to this, and knows now that when i disappear from a department store its cause i was about to scream at someone and just had to leave.
20. i hate the heat and love the cold. i would vastly prefer to bundle up than sweat like hell.
21. i used to be a DJ in junior high. i dj’d several Junior high dances and really enjoyed it.
22. i don’t think my classmates enjoyed my djing as much as i did.
23. i have loved hip hop since i was in junior high although i angrily denied this around my peers… the reason was, i was afraid my parents would disapprove.
24. i was class president in junior high, this was almost entirely do to my ENORMOUS (25×6″ in dimension) posters that i made with my best friend.
25. i hate the fact that although i am 27 years old, and i don’t get carded anymore, i still break out like 14 year old at least once a week.

I was also really excited when I got glasses but pretended not to be. Although I’ve never had to wear bifocals, I probably would have been stoked about the fact that I was wearing something Ben Franklin invented. (I was really into Franklin and Edison as a kid.)
Mike W.
My uncle Simon was a black horse trainer/showman.
